I have a confession to make... I've secretly began planning my wedding, after being engaged for a little more than a year. This week one of my favorite wedding blogs, Offbeat Bride, featured one of my favorite brides, Mrs. Lea Grover. Pretty effing sweet, if you ask me. |

I've been hard at work the past few weeks, adding my homemade jewelry, sock monsters and paintings to etsy - a site for handmade crafts and such. I've got enough of a collection going to finally show it off. Check me out at amybethporter.etsy.com So what I need, if you please, is feedback. What do you think? What you like? What doesn't work so much? I've only got so much control over how the page works, but most of the visuals and words are mine to agonize over. A little of your input can only make it better. Thanks a bunch!

You are invited to participate in an interesting and entertaining survey about language. Essentially, we're asking about the spread of Yiddish (and some Hebrew) among English speakers in North America. We're turning to both Jews and non-Jews to answer questions like these: Who uses Yiddish words like "shmooze" and "daven" and phrases like "Money, shmoney"? Why do some people say "temple" while others say "shul"? Who prefers biblical names for their babies? Your responses will help us answer these and other questions, and you might learn something about yourself in the process. Please set aside 5-10 minutes, and click on this link to participate. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=9 Sincerely, Prof. Sarah Bunin Benor

I'm considering ordering a couple of magazine subscriptions - to increase my knowledge of the things around me that are of interest, but that I don't take the time to look into because I am easily distracted. Like... music. I considered getting a subscription to Rolling Stone for about 3 minutes. Then I decided it would make me sad to read about Fall Out Boy and those wacky Osbournes. So... suggestions, please for magazines - music or otherwise.
